Overview
Prep-IQ (“we,” “our,” or “the app”) is an iOS app that helps you track food, nutrition, and related health information. This policy describes what information the app processes, including data that stays on your device and data sent over the internet when you use certain features.
Use this policy together with your answers in App Store Connect’s App Privacy section so they stay consistent.
Health data (Apple HealthKit)
If you enable it, the app may read health and fitness data from Apple Health (HealthKit), such as weight, steps, active energy, and sleep. That data is used only to provide tracking and analysis inside the app.
Health data you choose to share is stored locally on your device as part of the app’s normal operation. We do not operate our own cloud service to store your HealthKit data.
HealthKit data is not shared with third parties. It is not sent to nutrition databases (such as Open Food Facts or USDA), advertisers, or analytics providers. It stays on your device for use inside the app only.
You control Health access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → Prep-IQ. The app does not write data to HealthKit.
Food logging and on-device storage
Information you enter—such as foods, recipes, diary entries, goals, and preferences—is stored on your device so the app can function. We do not sync that content to our servers because we do not provide a backend account service for that data.
Network requests for food and barcode features
When you search for foods or scan a barcode, the app may send requests over the internet to third-party data sources so it can retrieve product or nutrition information. These requests are limited to what you type or scan for that lookup (for example, a food name or barcode)—not your HealthKit measurements or other health data from Apple Health.
Depending on what you do, those requests may include:
- Search text you type (for example, to find a food name)
- Barcode or product identifiers from a scan or lookup
- Technical data typical of HTTPS requests (such as IP address, user agent, and timestamps), which may be processed by those services and their infrastructure providers
Third-party services used for these features may include public nutrition databases such as Open Food Facts and USDA-related APIs. Their use is subject to their own privacy policies and terms. We do not control how those services log or retain requests.
We use this network access only to show nutrition information and related app features, not to sell your personal information.
Camera
Barcode scanning uses your device camera only when you start that feature. Images are processed for scanning; we do not describe uploading those images to our servers because the app does not provide a server for that purpose.
Analytics and advertising
We do not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs in the app as of the last update of this policy. If that changes in a future version, we will update this policy and App Store privacy details before or when the change ships.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data deletion
You can stop HealthKit sharing or revoke camera access in iOS Settings. Deleting the app from your device removes locally stored app data on that device. Requests sent to third-party APIs are handled under those providers’ policies and are outside our control.
International users
If you use food search or barcode features, your requests may be processed in countries where those third-party services or their hosts operate. By using those features, you understand that basic request data may cross borders as part of normal internet routing.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will revise the “Last updated” date above when we do. Material changes may also be noted in the app where practical.
